Kickoff: Dinosaur Dimensions 

Watch dinosaurs come to life at our Summer Reading Kickoff, Dinosaur Dimensions with Curt Strutz on Friday, June 5th at 5:30 pm at Iron Clad.

Dinosaur Dimensions features audience involvement, a collection of four animatronic puppets, and an adventure story. Plus, there is an opportunity to meet the dinosaurs after the show!

Habitat Building:  Wednesday, June 10th • 10:30 am @ Wamego Public Library. Create your own dinosaur habitat with building materials.

Flint Hills Discovery Center:  Wednesday, June 17th • 10:30 am @ Wamego Public Library. Join us as we learn about dinosaurs with Flint Hills Discovery Center! 

Sunset Zoo:  Wednesday, June 24th • 10:30 am @ Wamego Public Library. Meet the Animal Ambassadors from Sunset Zoo and learn about animal habitats. 

MAD Science:  Wednesday, July 1st • 1:30 pm @ Iron Clad. Come experience interactive, larger-than-life science experiments.

Milford Nature Center:  Wednesday, July 8th • 10:30 am @ Wamego Public Library. Milford Nature Center volunteers will bring live animals and intriguing artifacts for us to explore.

Join us on Thursdays at 10:30 am for outdoor Storytime in Wamego City Park, near the bandstand, from June 4th-July 16th

We’ll have stories, songs, rhymes, therapy dogs, and dinosaur book giveaways to encourage your littlest readers. Storytime content is geared toward 2- to 5-year-olds, but all are welcome!

Note: Storytime will be held at Wamego Public Library on Thursday, July 2nd.

Scavenger Hunt: pick up forms June 1st - July 13th, turn in by Monday, July 13th to enter drawing and get a prize, finish bonus section for extra ticket. Winner announced July 15th.

Stop by the Wamego Public Library to pick up your Scavenger Hunt form between Monday, June 1st and Monday, July 13th!

Visit different businesses in downtown Wamego, find the poster, and fill in the creature. Return the completed form by Monday, July 13th to enter our raffle basket drawing and receive a pack of Read Along Book Trading Cards. Complete the off-Lincoln bonus section to get an extra raffle ticket.  

Winners will be announced at the Summer Reading Finale on Wednesday, July 15th!

Fishing with the Biswells: Wednesday, June 10th • 1:30 pm @ Wamego City Park Pond.  Join us as we learn about fishing with Tammy and Dennis Biswell! Supplies will be provided, or bring your own.

Dino Dough: Wednesday, June 17th • 1:30 pm @ Wamego Public Library.  Join us as we create our own fossils! Make a keepsake an ornament, or a gift for a friend.

Backyard Fossils: Wednesday, June 24th • 1:30 pm @ Wamego Public Library. Local fossil enthusiast Dennis Biswell will bring real specimens from near and far, and dig into the fossil history right here in our community. Registration is required, and opens Wednesday, June 10th at 10:00 am.

MAD Science: Wednesday, July 1st • 1:30 pm @ Iron Clad.  Bring the whole family and join us as we experience interactive, larger-than-life science experiments!

Teen Finale: Bedrock Bowling

For our final event of the summer, we’ll be meeting up at 6:00 pm on Friday, July 17th at Lincoln Street Lanes. Join us for pizza, soda, treats, and bowling as we celebrate the end of this year’s summer reading program!

This event is free to attend. Registration is required and opens Thursday, July 2nd at 10:00 am.

Friends of the Kaw River Cleanup: Saturday, June 6th • 10:00 am at Wamego Boat Ramp. Join us as we team up with Friends of the Kaw and the Kreider family to help keep our Kansas River clean! Ages 8+.

Book Club: Monday, June 8th 12:00 noon. Join our monthly book discussion of You Never Forget Your First by Alexis Coe.

Adult Craft Class – American Flag Cutting Board:  Thursday, June 11th at 5:30 pm • Saturday, June 13th at 9:30 am @ Wamego Public Library. Enjoy making a patriotic decoration. Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smoky Hills: Thursday, June 25th • 5:30 pm @ Wamego Public Library. Join us for a free presentation by Rex Buchanan to learn about the history of prehistoric carvings in Kansas. Part of the Humanities Kansas Speakers Series. Recommended for ages 18+

Feature Film:  Tuesday, June 30th • 1:30 pm @ Wamego Public Library. Come watch a historical movie that has won 11 Tonys including Best Musical. What could it be? Visit the Library to find out!

Native American Ribbonwork Traditions:  Thursday, July 9th • 5:30 pm @ Wamego Public Library. Join us for a free presentation by Jancita Warrington of the Menominee and Potawatomi tribes, to learn about the rich cultural tradition of woodland ribbonwork. Part of the Humanities Kansas: Kansas Folklife Series. Recommended for ages 18+.

Whether you’re a foodie or just interested in trying something new, Recipe Club is for you! Present your reading log each Monday in June to receive your weekly recipe kit, which includes the featured ingredient, recipes, and a bit of history.
