Children's Programs

SRP Elementary block sheet for July

Join us each week for a new adventure-themed, fun-filled event! We can’t wait for you to meet our incredible performers and special guests. Pick up a reading log beginning Monday, June 3rd to set your summer reading goals and win prizes! Visit the Children’s page for more information about book club and other programs happening this summer.

Programming is planned for K-5th graders along with a caregiver. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

K-State Extension: Wednesday, June 12th • 1:30 PM @ Iron Clad. We are jumping into our weekly Elementary Adventures this summer with Sydney Pine from Pottawatomie
County Research and Extension! Sydney will be leading problem-solving adventures through building.

MAD Science: Wednesday, June 19th • 1:30 PM @ Iron Clad. This week we are headed on an adventure in science with MAD Science! Coming in from Kansas City, MAD
Science will bring large-scale STEM presentations to both thrill kids and stimulate their minds.

Flint Hills Discovery Center: Wednesday, June 26th • 1:30 PM @ Iron Clad. This week we are headed on a prairie adventure with Flint Hills Discovery Center from Manhattan! They will be joining us for some cowboy and reptile adventures.

Sunset Zoo: Wednesday, July 10th • 1:30 PM @ Iron Clad. This week Sunset Zoo will be joining us for a week of animal adventures!

Finale! Passport Party: Wednesday, July 17th • 1:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library. Grab your adventure buddies and come explore the Library! There will be different stations and activities set up throughout the whole building to learn how we live, play, and read in the new spaces. We can’t wait for you to join us to explore the building and celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Program.

Children's Movie Mondays, from June 10th through July 15th at 10 am and 2 pm

Join us in the Library’s large meeting room on Mondays from June 10th through July 15th at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm for a movie! Come kick back, enjoy some popcorn, and settle in for a show. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Interactive movie on Monday, July 1st at 10 am and 5:30 pm
Join us for this special interactive movie on Monday, July 1st at 10:00 am and 5:30 pm. Interactive movies give audiences active roles while watching movies, like responding to characters, acting out scenes, or using props. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Storytime Thursdays June 6th through July 18th at 10:30 am, Wamego City Park

Join us in City Park on Thursdays at 10:30am, from June 6th to July 18th. Storytime content is geared toward 2- to 5-year olds, but all are welcome! Come discover fun stories, therapy dogs, book giveaways, and more for encouraging your budding reader-to-be. Note: There will be no Storytime on Thursday, July 4th. Our backup rain location will be Wamego Public Library’s large meeting room.

Summer Reading Scavenger Hunt, June 3rd-July 15th. Come to the library to pick up a form.

Hunt for posters hidden in downtown Wamego!

Pick up a scavenger hunt form at the library on or after Monday, June 3rd. Visit each place on the list to find the object on the poster. Turn in your completed form by Monday, July 15th to be entered to win! 

The grand prize winner will be announced at the Passport Party at the Library on Wednesday, July 17th at 1:30pm.

Teen Programs

Join Maci each week for adventure-themed programs for teens! Pick up a reading log beginning Monday, June 3rd and start logging minutes for a chance to win prizes. Who can rack up the most minutes?

Programs are for 6th-12th graders.

Adventures in Art:  Wednesday, June 12th • 1:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library.  Join us for a guided painting class! All materials and refreshments will be provided as you create a beautiful landscape painting to take home with you.

Survival Workshop  Wednesday, June 19th • 1:30 PM @ Wamego City Park. Learn to survive outdoors using things in your own backyard! Join us for a session led by Klint Janulis as he teaches us to use unexpected resources to create survival tools.

Summer Movie Night  Tuesday, June 25th • 5:00 PM @ Wamego Public Library.  Come experience our new event space and enjoy a movie on the projector screen! We’ll have popcorn and drinks to share.

Snack Around the World  Wednesday, June 26th • 1:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library. Take your taste buds on an adventure! Taste snacks from all over the world and make a snack of your own!

City Park Scavenger Hunt  Wednesday, July 10th • 1:30 PM @ Wamego City Park. Race to follow clues and take pictures in City Park!

Finale! Passport Party  Wednesday, July 17th  1:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library. It’s time for the conclusion of an amazing Summer Reading Program! We can’t wait to celebrate summer with you!

Adult Programs

Join Kelley for a variety of adventure-themed programs for adults! Pick up a reading log beginning Monday, June 3rd and earn a chance to win every time you come to the Library. See the Adult Program page for upcoming book club information as well.

Programs are for ages 18+.

Friends of the Kaw: Thursday, June 6th  5:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library.  Join docent Ramona Stueve as she educates us on the Friends of the Kaw organization.  Friends of the Kaw is a 501c3 and is the only grassroots citizens’ group committed to protecting the Kansas River. If weather permits we will walk to the Wamego boat ramp to end the program. There is no registration for this event.

Nature Walk at Konza: Thursday, June 13th  6:30 PM @ Konza Prairie in Manhattan. Join us for a behind-the-scenes hike of beautiful Butterfly Hill, a trail at Konza Prairie that is not open to the general public. This tour will last approximately 1.5-2 hours. Wear appropriate shoes. Sign up is requested, but not required and will open on May 30th. Rain date is Tuesday, June 25th.
Directions: 100 Konza Prairie Lane. Drive past the nature trail into the area that says authorized personnel only. When you come around the bend, you will see buildings, including a large stone barn. We will meet at the barn.

Adult Coloring Class: Tuesday, June 18th 5:30 PM @ Wamego Public Library. Join us for a relaxing coloring class held in our new program space!  Each participant will receive either a National Park or Island Vacation coloring book along with pencils to take home. Bring a friend and enjoy our new space! Registration is required and will open at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 4th. All supplies will be provided.

Block Prints Class: Thursday, July 11th  5:30 PM or Saturday, July 13th  9:30 AM @ Wamego Public Library. Join us for an interactive class where you will learn the ins and outs of block printing.  Each participant will receive two cotton kitchen towels to print. Registration is required and will open at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 27th.  Register here for the Thursday class. Register here for the Saturday class. All supplies will be provided.

Dutch Oven Demonstration: Tuesday, July 16th  5:00 PM. Join us for a fun evening of outdoor cooking as we learn how to use a Dutch over outside! This program will include taste-testing cobbler and homemade ice cream. Registration is required and will open on Tuesday, July 2nd at 10:00 AM. Once registered you will receive a notification regarding the location and additional details.

National Park Lunch Series, June 11th, 25th, and July 9th at Noon, at WPL

The Library is pleased to partner with Wilderness Inquiry for our summer lunch series.  Join us as we explore three of our National Parks from the comfort of our newly equipped Large Meeting room – no packing required! This free program will begin at noon and last approximately one hour. There is no registration for this program. You are welcome to bring your lunch to enjoy.
